Basset Hound was originated from France. These dogs were very popular to hunters during the time of Emperor Napoleon. A Basset Hound, first, came to America brought by Marquis de Lafayette, a wealthy Frenchman, as a gift to President George Washington.

During the 19th century in America, American Eskimo dogs traveled the land performing many trick-dog acts. Their fur coat till now is usually pure white but it sheds a lot so they need to be combed and bathed regulary.
